Now that you mention it, try using 32 bit one. I personally never experienced what you're reporting so it's either specific to your machine/client/java setup or specific to a region you're travelling through, but if it was the latter then likely much more people would be subject to it.
Alternatively, if you have a trully trusted friend, you could give them your acc info and ask them to log in from their pc and see if they get same issues or maybe they can move you out(and you'd know for sure it's related to your setup).

I guess you could try deleting your res files. This is just a shot in the dark.

Deleting the res files does nothing.

I tried redownloading the entire client earlier, anyway.

Hm. Next time it happens, I'll try to switch to the 32-bit version instead to see if that fixes things.

I didn't mean the client's res files, I meant the ones in your haven folder.

Wonder if that would be "haven 'res cache' folder"
Aka: <drive>:\Documents and Settings\<username>\.haven\cache\*.*

Hmm. Running out of ideas here:

Tried clearing cache folder. Doesn't help.

Tried x64 Java 6 runtime instead of 7. Doesn't help.

Tried x32 Java 6 runtime. Doesn't help.

Tried to log onto same character on shitty work laptop. Works fine.

It's more shots in the dark, with luck thou it might help you narrow it down (but at least now you know it's something with your "standard" setup). Have you checked for viruses recently? Have you got more than one gpu and if so then is one of them disabled? When it happens have you tried to shut down your pc completly and then rerun the client?

Only one GPU (a nvidia notably, but I otherwise have no issues), drivers current, rebooting does nothing.

Well, only two things left i can think about, that would continously give you such problems are: your gpu is physically damaged or you have some seriously messed up program running at all times (or almost all anyway). I would start with scanning for viruses if you haven't done that yet then if safe start disabling one by one programs that you normally use. Chat clients/av scanners/firewalls/memory management utilities...anything non system-critical that's running real time (ofc you'd be exposed with no av and firewall but those are key suspects at this point).

Actually, I take back what I said earlier. I just dropped Ender's on my work laptop, and while the vanilla client worked fine when I tried earlier (Might've been a fluke), when I tried launching Ender's, I got the same issue, and afterwards the vanilla client stopped working as well.

So either Ender's 01.03 cocks up some file the game uses that is not in the cache folder, or my home internet connection is at fault for a reason I can't quite fathom (The attempt on the work laptop that worked earlier today was actually at work).

That, or it working at all once on the laptop was a fluke.

I'm pretty baffled at this point.

The systems are pretty dissimilar, too.

Desktop: Intel Core2Quad 9600, 4GB RAM, Nvidia GTX260, 64Bit Win7, 64Bit Java7 (though the other versions don't work either).
Laptop: Intel i5, 4GB RAM, Shitty onboard Radeon, 32Bit Win7, 32Bit Java 6.

I am completely confused now. >:
