full screen black

I am new to the game and have no problem playing in window mode. I would rather play full screen but all I get is a black screen when I try to switch it over. any help for a non techy person .. running win 7 on hp pavilion g6-1d60us notebook pc with radeon card, installed java just for this game. So first time install on this computer and newest version. I have the same issue on my desktop however so I am thinking you just cant play in full screen mode??

You are correct.
For a bigger screen, I suggest you check out the Wizards' Tower subforum for alternative game clients to play the game.

I suggest using the Enders game client as that's the most preferred one for everyone, and let's be honest, pretty much EVERYONE is using some kind of game client, so you would be better off in general to get a game client for a "fair" playing experience.
