Fishing glitch?

Alright, I had a fully equipped fishing pole. (The pole, line, hook and a leech as a bait.) I found a place where fish were jumping and tried to fish but it said 'You need a fully equipped fishing pole to fish'. This confused me because I had, of course, a fully equipped fishing pole?

Did you equip fishing pole in your hand or it still sits in your inventory?

I tried equipping it but it won't let me? Is that possible because I have no hands free?

You have to have at least one hand free to equip it. Logical wise

Okay. I've done that, but here's a quick question-Do you left or right click when fishing? xp

Your line goes into water if you click correctly. And you also hear music playing so you can relax.

EDIT: I've tried double clicking as well as left and right but it dosen't play music, and my line just stays where it is.

Okay, so when you equipped it fully, you sit in a boat or stand at a shore with fishies jumping out of the water (actual animation). You go to adventure > fishing. When you select that, your cursor will become a fishing line, left click with it next to you on the deep water with fishies.
You'll see your line in the water and music playing. After about 15-ish seconds, you should be getting a fish in your inventory.

I've done exactly what you said but it still dosen't work...? It just acts as if I'm moving, coming up with 'You need to be swimming to cross deep water'.

if you are standing in the shallow water you have to cast into the first deep water tile iirc
