You need a sharp tool to shear sheep

I'm holding a scythe FFS. Is that not a sharp enough tool?

Right; it can of course be argued that the scythe should be a sharp tool. Right. :)

Wow, it seems that shearing a sheep with a stone axe has become an "acceptable" method... I'm just glad I'm not the sheep and certainly even more so, glad i'm not the sheep getting sheared by me... with a stone axe :?

Shearing sheep with a stone axe 101:

Hold stone axe in right hand locking axe hilt against fore-arm. Come here sheepy, this is gonna sting a little... grab sheep by balls with left hand and shear away.

If you are an Aussie or Kiwi, you may also wish to free the use of your left hand by tucking the sheep's hind legs into your leather boots while driving it close to the edge of a cliff and sheer away while doing your other "stuff" (just a bit of innocent banter of course, nothing against the Ausies or Kiwis)
