Judging from his name he should be italian.Pg is an abbreviation of "personaggio", that means character in english.

Or "personaggio giocante", meaning "playing character" PC, as opposed to the NPCs :)

interesting, your "pg" wouldn't happen to be named Netto, would it?

I cannot think of any mechanism by which it would be possible to lose a character due to a server crash, so I guess it would have to be the latter. :)

It should be said, though, that when people have lost a character and don't know why, the most common cause has been that the character has been left logged in doing something really tiring and then starved to death.

I've lost one to a server crash. OK, it was back in May, but still :P
I still have him in my character list, but his portrait is a question mark and his name is a square. When I click on "play", nothing happens.
He was created just before a crash, back when crashes came with 12 hour rollbacks.

I suppose it could happen even now, if there was a rollback, but we haven't had one of those in ages.

Oh, I remember that bug. It is actually more accurate to say that the server crashed because you lost your character rather than the other way around, though. :) It's been fixed since then, though; I didn't know anyone was still affected by it. I've fixed up your character list now, so I think you should be able to play him again. :) (EDIT: Maybe not, after all. It hits me that if your account is loaded in the server at the moment, it will probably overwrite my changes back to the faulty version)

I don't think so, though. First, that program wasn't even caused by a rollback, but apart from that, character lists are saved immediately upon changes, so they shouldn't even be affected by rollbacks.
