Well, I was roaming around the rivers... Admiring the scenery and aggroing bears that would be able to kill my alt in one swing. Logged out in my boat to make sure no one gets any funny ideas...

I just float by peoples homes, claimed or unclaimed. Not worth the time spent to maybe get something good that I could get myself with little effort. Especially an alter.

Sounds like you either got unlucky with decay, or someone just wanted to grief you.
