Not really if they are doing away with it ......
Anyway, no point in two conversations about it.

I would go around villages and extorting payment for protection in my claimed supergrid, if the fast travel was removed and sieging would be a bit improved, raiders would have so many new great possibilities

How can't one not understand that the regular John Doe doesn't have the time sink to trade. The chances of local trade goes down significantly as well with the off chance of not being able to login the same exact time as your direct neighbors. Formal roads will not be secure enough for high valued goods transport either, hell not even for teleportation with the wilderness spawning as well. Sounds like the, don't play don't understand syndrome. Its good on paper but breaks apart the instant you put it into practice as lacking experience doesn't give the insight into the limit of how much a player can actually sink into a PC game.

If that chance of hours invested vs chance to lose that investment goes above 10% then formal roads will not be used for trading purposes. It will mostly be used in raiding and mass teleportation to access raids as trade often is to costly to be done or impossible if needing escorts. Perfect examples can be found in other MMOs that have done this to death.

The only way to use the system will be to use teleporting during formal raiding hours when actual combat is expected. Its like the perfect raiding mechanic that will replace boat travel. It will probably be abused by faction to bounce around cleaning up smaller settlements faster then if it didn't exist at all.

If John doesn't want to invest some time in trading, should he be trading at all? I know you peaceful players wouldn't like this and it would make the game a bit harder for peacefuls and traders, but I think that trade should be something where you have to actually invest your time in not as now, a bot that oaths you to a idol, you put your trade items there, take the trade items and thats all, port away, 20 seconds.

You do understand that trade is a huge part of the havens content. Early, mid and endgame content that attracks and keeps the attention of alot of players. Decision to remove it would be like Volvo suddenly making a car without doors for some reason.

I totally get what you are saying and I agree but Xcom is right in what the end result would be if trading had to be done solely on travelling via roads. You said it yourself in your first post. There has to be some middle ground, which I'm praying the devs have thought of and just haven't said yet.

If there are no peaceful players, no hermits and no small groups who are you going to trade with anyway? And, who are you going to raid? :)

What if the "trader profession would emerge? Transporting your goods from x to y for a price.

There is already so little content for end-game players. If trade is made harder what will be left? Raiding? And will the game be enjoyable only for people who are able to spend four hours every day playing it? Do you even want people playing this game?

I think the main issue is coming up with a safer and faster way to carry goods by land and even by sea.
If you do this some people will invest whatever time it takes into trading.
And it'd be quite realistic, imagine traders going from town to town selling their goods with different prices for the same good depending on the area...

To clarify, I was referring to the "So maybe they want a game more focused on factions and less on survival or individual stuff." part specifically, nothing else
