Security issues? (SOLVED)

Postby buddy7765 » Wed Jun 10, 2015 4:32 am

So I decided to try out this game for myself... and it won't even let me play and I can't seem to figure out why. Here's what I did.

Made an account and clicked play at the top of the website. After clicking "OK" while it was checked on "Open with Java(TM) Web Start Launcher (default)" (in a drop down window) It then came up with something about a security error. It said...

"Application Blocked by Security Settings"
"Name: Haven & Hearth"
"Location: http://www.havenandhearth.com"
" Your security settings have blocked a self-signed application from running"

I went into my computer's security settings and added "http://www.havenandhearth.com" to my trusted sites, but that, as expected, didn't change a thing.

So i checked the PAQ for answers, and decided to try and update my Java. Now I'm using Java 8 Update 45.

I then tried again. I did the same steps as before (clicking play then ok) I now got something new to happen. While it came up with another security error, before that it actually had a "Downloading application: bar, it made it about 3/4 of the way through then a security error came up again. Only this time, it had a bit more information. It reads...

"Application Blocked by Java Security"

"For security, applications must now meet the requirements for the High or Very High security settings, or be part of the Exception Site List, to be allowed to run."

"More Information" <This was a link that took me here http://java.com/en/download/help/jcp_security.xml>

"Name: Haven & Hearth"
"Location: http://www.havenandhearth.com"
"Reason: Your security settings have blocked a self-signed application from running"

All changes between security errors i noticed was it now said "Application blocked by JAVA Security" instead of "Security Settings"
It now said "Reason:" next to "Your security settings have blocked a self-signed application from running"
It now had "For security, applications must now meet the requirements for the High or Very High security settings, or be part of the Exception Site List, to be allowed to run." and "More Information"

These changes may be minor and not mean anything, but I felt the need to note them anyways.

So after this security message popped up again after updating my Java, I clicked the "More Information" option and found my way through to the security settings of my Java, and it looked very similar to screenshots that link took me too, besides the fact I had a "Medium" option under "Very High" and "High" but when I changed it to that option and clicked play and closed the security warning through H&H it automatically went back to "High"

I think put "http://www.havenandhearth.com" and "https://www.havenandhearth.com" (both the http and https versions) into my Exception Site List, but nothing has changed.

one forum post I followed step by step before making this thread viewtopic.php?f=2&t=38091&p=503035#p503035

I checked and i have no firewall up. (as I put it down for minecraft servers a few days ago)

Recap: Tried to play H&H but security settings said no. After updating Java I got a NEW security warning, but still couldnt play. I added the site onto my site exception lists for both java security, and system security. But the warning will not go away.

Try using a custom client.
The default client really isn't worth the effort to get running.

I couldn't replicate this, after adding http://www.havenandhearth.com to the exceptions list I got this

One more thing that you can try is setting your security settings to medium

This option is available in 7.79, but not in java 8
The Java control panel is located at
C:\Program Files\Java\jre7\bin\javacpl.exe
by default.

Java 8 is very bad.
If you want to run default client you need to add http://www.havenandhearth.com as exception on Java control panel - Security - Exceptional Site List - Edit site list

He has already tried that.
but I have to agree, java 8 is bad and some older applications will not run on java 8. given that it's been 4 years since default has been updated I'd suggest uninstalling java 8 and using java 7 to play.

After downgrading to Java 7, and setting my security settings to medium, it finally started working! :)
