If you only have trespass skill(as in not allowing vandalism) and you light a fire on someone else's property(tried near RoB, since there's so much junk around the teleport spot it's hard to move around) it burns it's normal duration, and then, instead of being turned to ashes, it turns into a fresh built fire, allowing you to light it again.
while not a big exploit, it can be a convenience thing.
I think I have noticed a similar phenomena, which is new. While hunting and foraging I noticed numerous unlit fires in the woods where I go. The number has been increasing. And since you get lp for lighting fires and it tidies the place up, I've been lighting them as I wander past. The number has still been increasing despite this. I had been assuming that they were hearthfires of newly spawned characters, who having moved on and created a new hearth fire had devolved back into regular fires the way such things do. But only recently I noticed from the baskets and drying racks that often are found nearby.... these are the fires that I have been lighting when I make a kill and want to roast the meat.
My next theory was that the server has been crashing, and as I've observed before when the server crashes your fire goes out and the pile of wood remains. But the server has not been crashing this much. It seems to be when I move far enough away from the fire while it is burning it reverts spontanously back to the unlit state.
I had just started to think of this as a possible newbie grind exploit -it takes less time to relight fires than build them, so dotting your foraging ground with fires every few feet might and then coming back repeatedly to relight them might be worth the trouble -when I saw this post.
Something seems to have changed here anyway, that might have interesting ramifications. OP is correct. There is an oddity.
