Entering/Leaving Village crashes client (sometimes)

Postby KoE » Fri Apr 16, 2010 1:24 pm

I've been getting this for a while now, but I just had it occur and I can't log in where I logged out. Which wouldn't be so bad if my hearthfire wasn't currently a temporary waypoint into Constantinople. (And no, I wasn't carrying anything when I logged out and I obviously have permissions to log in on that claim).

Anyway, the actual bug is simply that right at the point where I would enter my village and get the 'Entering [village]' pop-up/sign/whatever, I get a Haven error and the client crashes. (The exact error-puke is below) It happens pretty well at random, or at least not with any pattern I can discern. It's been happening sporadically pretty much ever since the village update.

Anyway, the error:

This happens to me a lot too. I was never able to relog back into where it dropped me but I did get it to stop by clearing my temp files and redownloading the client. I don't know if that "fixed" anything but it hasn't happened again.

My client crashed 3 times in a row thanks to this. First time I wasnt able to relog where it crashed, two times it worked.

I think this should be fixed now, though. See commit 8dbb5ea802fda50b9e832f9d883b3999911ae027.

I assume you mean it should have been fixed since the 8th (given the date on that page) and I've definitely had it happen since then.

I haven't gotten it again today, though (and I've been crossing in and out of the village with regularity). If it happens again I'll note it and go ahead and try springyb's 'fix'.

You aren't using Pacho's client, by any chance?

Nope, I've been using the vanilla client. The only time I've interacted with Pacho's client was attempting to download it once which resulted in it throwing some errors out and me deciding using the main one was less of a headache. I dunno if that could have crudded it up somehow or not, though.

Just had this happen again. Same vanilla client, same place it happened last time.

While I don't understand how it could not work with the latest code, I've just rebuilt the client with some extra fire-protection against this fault. Please try the very latest one.

Hopefully you'll pardon my rampant ignorance, but I'm using the ol' Play button at the top of the page so if that's not sufficient you'll need to point me in the direction of the latest client.

Anyway it only crops (well, hopefully cropped) up intermittently, but I'll do some stuff that'll have me running on and off the village claim frequently and let you know if it happens again.
