Trees dont grow

Postby Nobody » Sat Apr 17, 2010 12:42 am

I planted several oaks and maples more than one real week ago. And so far they have not grown at least for a little bit. Although I planted mulberry (lower right corner) three real days after planting oaks, and it has already grown to the third stage on the same ground type. One of the developers said that might be problems with the growing rate after one of the latest updates, so I would like to know how soon this will be fixed from them, please. I'm almost out of good trees here.

The oaks they grow exceedingly slowly. I think for an oak it may take a month before it is grown. Also, if some creature or any thing comes beside the tree when it is time to grow again it will not grow. This means that trees that are planted in a forest must have great room to grow -as I see you have done- but also that some will remain stunted always because perhaps a rabbit or a player have stood near it at a moment that is bad.

I understand that birches are the fastest tree to grow and oaks are the slowest. I think maples also are slow, and spruce and willow are fast.

I do not know if there is a bug that causes your trees to stay small but these are some thing also that you may not know.

Trees do grow more slowly on unfamiliar terrain. Perhaps you are planting deciduous trees in a coniferous forest?

One and a half of real week, my oaks and maples have grown only 1.5 weeks before.

Yep, but i planted maples and mulberries at the same time and place, and they grew almost simultaneously (that was at my last place). If mulberry grown, so the rest should be, they both are from deciduous forest.

This part of the simulation is bullshit.

Loftar + Jorb, please change that.

In case Trees are unable to grow at some moment they should work like silkmoths: skip a turn.

And in case they skip to many (say: 3) while growing they should transform into what would be left after 'chop' operation (to clean up to densly planted areas).

My trees have always grown randomly. We planted two oaks next to each other at the same time and one took almost a week longer to fully grow then the other.

I heard from somewhere that trees take a certain number of decay hits to grow. I always figured that was the reason.

I dont get it. Only mulberry grown in last two days. I'm sure it doesnt depend on decay. But wtf is it then? J&L, to the rescue! Please

From my experience the first steps of tree growth are time based, only the last step needs a decay hit.

What could have happened is that the moment the trees wanted to grow something was on the tiles next to them (player, ants etc.) so they have stopped (and are practically dead by now).

See my post above.

Well, i have good news, they are still alive. They rose at the same moment, and that means that it doesnt depend on decay hit, bcause decay cant hit so much at the same time. Still hope that devs will make growing rate clear for me (not only i interested in it i'm sure).

Btw, decay destroyed my kiln just several minutes ago, and i wasnt able to stop it. I tried to repair it with 15 clay pieces (it was enough to make it fully repaired), after i could only watch as the kiln becomes redder and redder in few seconds, until disappear. Insanity of constant decay, wtf?

Did you - by chance - select destroy instead of repair?
