more then 2 moths in container bug

i had 3 moths, 1 male, 2 female in a container.. they happily transformed into 8 eggs... all 3 of them that is.
I assume this isn't intended... and that there isnt some moth-orgy going on since i only got 8 eggs out of the 3 moths

That would be as expected -- the male and one female copulated and left your 8 eggs, and the last female then died without having found a partner. A pair of moths copulating always die together, so you'll need to match them up exactly.

oo... the moth died because it was near mating moths and didn't have a partner? or did it die because of age or something?

I don't know off-hand how Jorb described it, but here's how it works:

The moths live for exactly 1 in-game day. When they die, they check the same inventory for another moth of the opposite sex; if there is one, they'll copulate, leave eggs (between 5 and 10, randomly), and then die together. If there isn't one, the moth will just die of age.

your purpose is just egoistic thinking. how would you know what she preferes to do? obviously they only mate to leave something on earth before they finally die. and obviously they only mate when theyre trapped. they seem quite happy flying around and stuff.

they fly around to mate.

It just happened that the human species managed to use it's intelligence and grew. But other than that, it's still fuck 'n die pretty much. ;)
