Stone Axes Using Bough?

Alright, so it started with me making a stone axe to chop an ugly oak tree, so I set off to go get a branch, and some rocks. I decided to make a lean-to to get LP while I was making the stone axe, so I grabbed bough. I decided to make the axe and then finish the lean-to, and when I crafted the axe it did not use the branch, but instead used the Elm Bough I grabbed.

Is this intentional or is it a bug?

Boughs are considered as branches, but branches aren't considered as boughs.

Except that you can't use boughs as fuel though.
If you keep focusing on the shadow behind, you will not see the light in front of you.
