Cannot login where last logged out.

I recently traveled a very long distance only to reach my destination just as I had to leave. So I logged out upon arrival, in the middle of some open space. Today when I tried to log into the character I tried to click "Where last logged out" but it won't do anything when I click it. In any other situation I'd click to spawn at my hearth fire but I didn't get a chance to set it at this new place and my old one is back where I first left. Is there any way to avoid spawning at my hearth fire and not lose all that distance?

Logging out in a chair, boat or while carrying something will not let you log back in in the same spot, as something else is there. Same goes for private and village claims you have no permission to be on. A more unlikely possibility is that someone dropped a liftable exactly in the spot you logged out or put a claim over it in the meantime. I will write a thread about this now that hopefully will be stickied.
