I geta black screen when starting Haven and Hearth

When I try to start Haven and Hearth it says "authenticating" and then a black screen appears, shortly followed by an error message. Keep in mind this is on a pretty old laptop. Is there any way of fixing this? Any help is appreciated.

make sure java and video drivers are up to date. make sure system time is correct. then try again.

Same happens to me on my desktop, except after 3-4 minutes it gives me the regular game screen and no other issues occur.
