Honey Buns and Carrot Cakes

Postby firemage » Sun Jul 19, 2009 8:11 pm

I have two ovens. In one I put 3 Honey Buns and one Carrot Cake, in the other 4 Carrot Cakes. One Bun Dough was already in the cold oven for some time. I lit both ovens and waited. I know, that Buns only need one branch, while Cakes need two, so I waited until the buns were ready, so they won't get burned.

Now to the bug: When I wanted to take out the buns, the cake in that oven was ready too! The cakes in the other oven however took the whole 2 branches.

This is a known bug/exploit. Simply putting things into a kiln/oven/smelter/finery forge starts the timer on them, even without lighting it, which means you can do everything by putting stuff in, waiting, then using one unit of fuel.

If you have to store your unbaked dough in the oven for any length of time you can always take it out again and put it back in to avoid burning it. This resets the timer. Otherwise being interrupted during a baking assembly line can be frustrating.

No matter how long it's been in there, a single stick of fuel won't burn it. Two sticks can, though.

To clarify:
Once I had both ovens filled, I put two branches each in them and lit them.
Only one Honey Bun in the mixed oven was there for a longer time.

The cake should have taken longer than the buns. Instead they were ready simulatnously. And that's the bug I'm reporting.

you probably had the cake in for one tick before lighting the oven. thus the bug mentioned before reduced the time for the cake to one tick(branch).

/edit
read your post again. you say you didnt have the cake in the overn for a longer time? how long is not long?

As long as it takes to fill two ovens with dough (minus one Honey Bun) and two branches each. So 30 seconds, tops!

Do we know whether ticks happen on a regular server cycle? or are specifically started and stopped whenever you put the item in the kiln? I'd bet the former given the described behaviour

The former.
A tick is 6 RL minutes, btw.
