You can't melee the bats, it must be killed with a bow. IDK if when you aggro it, itll let you hit it. However i 1 shot it with a bow from a long distance and its second buddy fucked me up.

I'm pretty sure they're one hit kills like rabbits, so damage/arrow type you use isn't a problem... only your accuracy. Which is why shooting them point blank is a good idea (difficult to miss). I killed 4 of them which spawned in my cave base quite easily with 12 MM. Easy leather! As for damage type, I think I saw striking damage.

I have a feeling you are 100% safe if you crawl past them, can anyone confirm?

I crawled past one that was about 6 squares away and it attacked.

So, yeah, crawling isn't foolproof.

If they're one hit kills, then I'd have to wonder how it manage to trade blows with me

Attack type is backhanded and sweeping.
W3 to W6 - Blockland. Special mentions: New Avalon, Tarn of Hotdog, Red October.
W7 - Elvenia, til we all got lazy.
W8 - Cult of R'lyeh, til the deeps called us back.
W9 - Tartarus, til death/wizards came for the land itself.
W10 - ???, ruined and forgotten.
