concurrent player count 2 months into a season being 1/3rd what it was on launch is quite good, actually. Like, fr a lot of companies would KILL for that ratio.

yeah not understanding how player count works is definitely the dumbest take of this thread so far, by that logic poe 2 is a massive flop

somehow I saw 900 at the weekend that probably makes this the most consistent haven world yet

Fighting in rust is actually fun so there's that too. The combat right now is aids if you chase someone who actually knows how to run and chances are they'll just run into a safe bubble or run until their friends show up anyways. On the flip side, if you're some hapless noob in haven you're just going to fall the fuck over where as in rust you may actually do something to even a super experienced player if you catch them off guard. I constantly hear people (mostly top players) try to say that anyone can hop into pvp in this game but it's clearly not been the case even as far back as legacy. You get the occasional new player who ends up in some faction but for the most part, you still see the same big names in all the fights and no one cares enough to invest the time required to actually be ok at this game's combat, let alone good at it.

I love how them elitists pvp`ers are bragging about knowing how to run. But the thing is - the said noob, even if he knows how to run and he knows how to drink and will have a decent gear and stats and custom client (w/e will imagine) - he just wont have same amount of water in his pockets to use. Cause he is out not to rando kill ppl, but to forage/hunt and he will need his inventory for that. And he WILL die, cause haven pvp is all about running.

I think you're overestimating how much water is necessary to escape in equal skill situations where it's not 10 guys on horses/snekkjas, but also it's disproportionately the "elitist PVPers" who've been begging for years for less water to be necessary, or larger water containers, & the twelve other things you need to carry in your inventory for PVP to be not mandatory.

I don't understand why you're trying to make it an us vs. them thing. I guarantee you every PVPer whose name you know wants PVP to be easier to get / and less tedious.

Honestly I think less of anyone who takes reviews seriously.

After the 20th or so game/movie/show ect that had bad reviews that was actually good...

And after like the 5th or 6th time something with really good reviews turned out to be terrible...

I simply don't take reviews seriously anymore. Overwhelmingly positive or negative score has zero impact on my decision to play or not and it shouldn't for you.

Steam's review system is EXTREMELY flawed too. If you have fucking 0.3 hours in a game you are not fit to leave a review. Full stop.

Plus you have people leaving both good and bad reviews that have no context. Like "Game is fun" or "Bad game". You have people posting technical issues as reviews: No the game isn't bad because you're too stupid to install Direct X 11. People protest reviewing some stupid shit thats either completely outside the game or accounts for like 0.001% of the game...

No matter how you slice it reviews are a horrible and inaccurate way to assess a game. If I'm on the fence I will always study a lets play.

There is something to be learned from the reviews though, there is clearly a lot of people who had the wrong idea. The trailers / offical videos for haven never show PvP. That's a mistake.

Edit: (offtopic) that carrying water argument is really dumb, most chases where the enemy escapes doesnt go past 1-3 waterskin consumption, you just need to catch a few speed boosts and youre gone. Its fine to dont understand the game or pvp but dont act like an authority on it

Ah but many of us don't want pvp to be easier we want it to be gone completely.

BTW I find it bit funny that the current top two "helpful reviews" are negative but indicate that they kept playing after they left the review. 130 and 230 hours, respectively.

SnuggleSnail wrote:The people that talk about the systems being hard/arcane/unlearnable or w/e are wrong. HOWEVER, the game does a shit job of teaching you anything PVP related. You could play single-player haven for 10,000 hours and you would learn nothing useful for PVP. If you played single-player rust for 10,000 hours I bet you'd still shit on most people in PVP. That's the world we live in. The guy who has 1,000 hours of PVP experience is going to shit on the guy with literally 0 seconds of PVP experience/transferable skills.

IMO the solution to this is to force PVP-esque mechanics into regular play since 99% of people are not going to just decide to bang their head against the wall until they get their foot in the door. The path of least resistance for most people is to just hope they never get aggroed, but eventually they're gonna get aggroed, and no matter how simple the PVP is if they have LITERALLY zero experience they're gonna get FUCKED
