Played lots of Runescape starting in 2006, even as it became RS3. I played some amount of OSRS and I have a mid-level main but like my attitude is more less I played 'Old' Runescape back when RS3 was old, and I'm not super keen on training up an account enough to engage with the later parts of content.

Back in an unspecified 'the day' I played a lot of small time MMOs maintained by small teams of what was most likely high schoolers and early collage kids.

A few I tried but didn't like were:
DnD online, takes itself way too seriously.

Black Desert. Fantastic combat and as far as MMOs go. It controls closer to a fighting game but the world felt so bland and generic, I didn't care about it.

Albion. Everything is so homogenized. There is almost zero advantage or disadvantage to being in any one town or region. As far as I can tell they all have the same resources around them and the same services in-town so I don't see the point in exploration, and more so the feeling of getting stronger over time is greatly diminished by just kinda having all the abilities from the get go when you pick up a new weapon.

I really liked Adventure Quest Worlds and Adventure Quest 3D.

And lately I really like 'MO's that is to say multiplayer open world RPGs that are just you and your friends. Swords n' Magic and stuff is a fantastic example and Atlyss is a pretty good example.

Albion runescape Wow Bdo new world throne liberty and most others I can't remeber

Right now just albion and runescape.

Runescape and Wow both is ancient and need to be put down already

Albion is a good game but pretty much only from a moba pvp pov because the mmo elements are horrible. I can't even argue that there's any reason to explore and the pve sux major ass.

I wish I could just into modern mmo but they are somehow all so trash lol. I even tried to get back on new world just because im so sick of ancient games and then it randomly died.

Maybe aion 2 will be good idk

Exploration was rarely worth it apart from finding new elite mobs, but there were a few secret paths that were'nt obviously mapped in the game - I believe mostly between open world dungeons.
When I played, each city biome lacked one or two key resources presumably to encourage trade, but it felt beneficial mostly for roleplay.

Faction warfare looked fun with the maps and moba gameplay - might be worth tagging back in on that if I can ever get the launcher working again.

I think Grounded was one of those, which I tried and liked. It's quite childish but it's harken back to Honey I Shrunk The Kids and similar films.

The video won't load unfortunately, but I'll offer you my favorite track from the entire game. I spent so many hours in that damn maze, never once got past Baphomet.

I thought BDO kinda sucked - it could have been a cool korean grinding game but there's too much cashshop and event loot that totally outmatches the RPG content. What more with thier character bound items and account names? So weird, it's just overwhelming. The node farming thing could have been alright but it seemed so inconsequencial.
But nah, Albion PVE was a pretty good grind when you're droning in and out of dark techno.

A few of us are HAM on a game called "Necesse". Not sure how we missed it. This is such an underrated and overlooked game.

Necesse is so good. It's like a mix of Rimworld and a horizontal form of Terraria.
