Lack of stones -> no runestones

Postby VDZ » Sat Sep 05, 2015 7:06 pm

As everybody is probably already aware, natural stones are rapidly disappearing from the world. This leads to a new problem: Without any stones around, you can't carve runestones, making communication with nearby players very difficult.

I live in an area that's at this point entirely devoid of stones (I need to travel very far to find any). Some distance away, still in the area where all stones have been depleted, I found a finished but only half-claimed palisade; they were clearly still setting up. (I could destroy the palisade very slowly with my ~25 STR.) However, they forgot to put a lock on the gate (or don't have the skills yet). I wanted to leave a runestone inside their palisade warning them that another player could instead craft a lock and put it on their palisade, but...with the area entirely devoid of stones, I had no way to contact them.

For situations like this it would be nice if we had some other way of indirect messaging, perhaps constructing signs or something?

I'd assume basements are still a thing, and if so you used to always be able to carve those stones into runestones.

There should be a wood sign.

Boulders are incredibly rare in some areas of the game world. The spawn of rocks seems to have its own "biome" so to speak. I've travelled 1.5 hours in a straight line without seeing a single boulder.

As Sevenless said, boulders got extremely varied spawn rates. I know a specific spot on one of the mountains near me where you can see over 30 boulders at once on the screen. Then in the fields just next to that mountain you will find 1 per 30mins of walking.

Can't find anything in search - Do rocks respawn? If they don't, won't that be a problem in 12 months time+ for the newer players?

I've heard someone say they do, but I don't really believe it personally.
