Charging Prisoners for Phone Calls

Postby Burinn » Mon Jul 18, 2016 10:41 pm

This article suggests that prisons will continue to be allowed to charge prisoners for phone calls they make.

IMHO I think this will further inhibit the reintegration of convicts into society by limiting the amount of contact they have with it prior to their release. Reconviction rates are already high enough and I don't think limitations like this help anyone.

What does Haven think about it?

Yeah, one of my uncles was in prison for 13 years for Vehicular Manslaughter, he had no clue about anything that was happening, lost his job, wife left him, kids barely knew him, I felt really bad for him. He couldn't make calls cause he had no one he could call, wonder what he did with his money than.

But yeah, they should really atleast not charge for out calls, cause people locked up for 30-40 years are screwed without any knowledge or even limited knowledge of the outside, everything's completely different, no one knows you, and you're too old to do anything but go back to prison and die there.
Suck me good and hard thru my jorts

I believe the purpose of prison is to NOT!!!!!! Punish those who commit crime but to take a potentially dangerous member of society and transform him into a productive member of society. And i believe they should not be able to inhibit a convicts ability to reintegrate himself into society as a productive member and not a convict.

Then for the sake of society they are to stay but they are to be treated humanely and not to be as removed as possible. Prison shouldn't be form of punishment as much as protection and rehabilitation.

There must be some punishing to prison, no? Prison is pretty good deal in other case. 24/7 security, free meal, free bed. What is stops people to commit crime just to get into prison?
