Having the same discussion in IP right now. Seems to be very much intended by the devs.

I disagree, with this entire thread in fact. It was fast before this new version and alts were still used, now it's slow and alts will still be used? Oh my god what a surprise?!?! Maybe if we can increase the rate just a little, players won't use alts????

Holy fuck

Players will always alt, it's a stupid and disgusting mechanic that takes away from diversified trade and the ability to create a meaningful community. Super-Specialized alt are a horrible thing to have exist, but they are also impossible to eliminate.

That being said, so far I've found the combat system to be equitable, enjoyable, and intuitive, a vast improvement over legacy.

Avu: The end is near it has finally come to pass: I agree with Lunarius...
Shubla: There are also other reasons to play this game than to maximize your stat gain.

The result?
Mid to late game (maybe even right fucking now), PvPers will create large batches of quickly-produced throwaway PvP alts who will be alarmingly effective against "main" characters. Nobody will leave their walls with mains, and combat will no longer carry the same... weight (thank you, I'll be here all week) as it used to.

Is this necessarily a bad thing?

~~~~~~
I would prefer zero alts in the game, if I had my way.
The most common reaction from someone who was a casual in the old system. You don't have any idea how bad it is until you get the shit beaten out of you or worse because you didn't get the right cards, which is almost 10000% beyond your control (don't say "tailor a deck to your situation!" because that doesn't apply to most PvP encounters, namely when I'm out hunting bats for example and I'm using my PvE deck.)
Doesn't it make sense though to simply not use a PvE deck anymore once one has decent stats and all moves? Can beat any animal with a good PvP deck too.
I prefer the new system over the old one too, but then again I have basically only been playing strategic card games after I left Haven.
It might perhaps be more beneficial to focus on only green defenses in a PvP card deck because most PvP fights are about sword oneshots. If you're found cycling defenses while your green defenses are down you are rather vulnerable. And you can't just put up only green against animals.
Well, the whole Personal Beliefs system was screwed up and flawed. Being at full change and dying made little difference in the time it took to get a descendant up, and being at full tradition was the only way to get a reasonable amount back, but it meant you didn't really develop that character anymore with more LP. Even then it was overall less than advertised. (Something like 50% of LP if I recall the math right at full tradition. Something like 10% at full change.)
Maybe if people can't grind out ridiculous stats in a couple of weeks, we won't see such horrid bot armies, but then as you pointed out, you only need a little LP to be able to kill another player now, so... what's changed?
It's all in your control, but what works for a card game where you get the best 2/3 in a tournament and random factors can be mitigated, it might not work so well in a life and death situation where you only get one try.
Nope, because deck RNG. I don't use (all of) the same cards to fight players as I do bats. I'd rather know exactly what cards I will have at all times-- the only ones I need to effectively fight animals blablabla.
MagicManICT wrote:It's all in your control.
You're gonna have to elaborate better than that, especially when I already have an instance today where something beyond my control let an animal land a hit on me-- I got a fucking take aim instead of the right block. Only way to prevent that is deck restructuring, for worse.
I rather sacrifice some efficiency vs bats that die in one shot anyway than to be vulnerable to a surprise attack by actual players.
