Trails are quite safe if you ccheck them with alts first.
Real problem is that they are hard to build and easy to destroy.
Also they will attract lot of visitors to your place which is not always a good thing.
It gives raiders very easy access to your place (or near) from tradehub.

There was a wise soviet conscript that was surrounded by the enemy on the battle of Stalingrad. A mortar shot teared his pants apart causing a big hole in his pants right on his right butt cheek. He felt a glorious cold ass breeze of wind on his butt cheek, like it would be sent by stalin himself, he said - hide your butts

Either way one of them has to change at some point, as long as roads are so easily destructible their usefulness has a limit. You're probably right that it is mostly laziness (or rather, an unwillingness to spend exuberant amounts of time traveling the world and risking death for a quick 2 minute trade) but LadyGoo is also right about last world trading really did pick up as soon as they added the charter stones back in unfortunately the experience was short lived since it was also at the end of the world.

I don't think any changes will be relevant this world. I would like to see a more convenient method of enacting trades though. I kind of miss Wurms mailboxes even though they meant you never left your local area.

I'd actually prefer charterstones be scattered across the map post world-gen and link fairly randomly to each other so that, if you knew the way, you could through a series of hops make it close to your intended destination. More content outside the walls tyvm.

Yeah, the latter part of your comment is also part of what makes them unsafe I agree, I won't have then near my hermit village for that very reason, though others keep building them near by and ofc there is not much I can do about it now you leave scents if you try to destroy them, lol, I hate the roads tbh. :)

im against everything with what you can travel across the whole map with no effort at all like in the old crossroad system
seriously, you can build stone roads all across the map in just few hours and noone is really bashing random shitter roads cuz thats loads of wasted time unless they piss someone off even then its more time to bash it than to fukn actually build it and they will leave tons of scents smh
just shitty excuses, could just argue about increasing road bashing time twice and making them to not get blocked by trees and stone boulders to ease the building process

Roads are shit and randomly break for no reason or if a person spawns a hearthfire in their path

How is that different to what the wealthiest players have now? Factions have no problems with traveling whenever they want to. But the noobs cannot.
