Bear Tooth q100 = SQRT(100/10)*2 = +6 Strength, Ermine Trimming made from q20 hide and q60 string = q40 = SQRT(40/10)*3 = +6 Strength. Get better hides or better string and the bonus increases further (e.g. q63 hide + q63 string is +8 Strength), while the required equipment quality to not softcap the gilding is much lower. Stuff with higher base value gets far better quality scaling.
