If you suffer a major loss now, it is "world over" for some. Lets say a faction gets lucky and flattens its adversary, the other party can retaliate
with a rag tag team (or with stashed equipment) just minutes/hours later. It should be easy to destroy a palisade if you are not opposed.
Using fire to burn wood and wooden buildings should be a thing. You would get a much more dynamic game if a player or a small team of players can break into
a major factions base and burn it to the ground.

this is very much true, and I agree with most of it. But if no way to keep stuff safe then lots of ppl will cry. So need to be a balance to that as well.
and also we really need teleportation for faster travels all over worlds to make fighting faster ;)

which then again makes it so that retaliation made by one person isn't possible... you even read?

Building is probably my greatest motivation/activity in Haven.
I just love building stuff.

And in this world I'm building my grandest project yet. It's ridiculously massive for a single person although I'm getting a lot of help from friends (and my brother is playing this world, too) so maybe - MAYBE - we'll be finished before the world ends.

And this is a dreadful thought for the people with huge projects or building stuff: the end of the world. The thought that everything you've been working for will be for nothing.
I know that this is a silly thing and a playstyle that a lot of you won't even bother to consider (or just laugh at me :P ) but it is what I like to do and, honestly, if that kind of thing wasn't meant to be possible we wouldn't have variable materials, different paving stones, etc, etc...

So as much as I see a lot of reason on what everyone here is saying, I really dislike this obsession with new worlds; not specifically mentioning the OP, as it was more like a joke - but it doesn't take long for the "New World" mob to gather.
In a way, if all of them too started working on massive building projects, no one would get bored :D I'm still very interested, playing daily and spending a lot of time in the game because I want to see it done.

So perhaps this is a good way to keep the game alive:
creativity.

Maybe coming up with even more ways to be creative within the game would help with its longevity as much as any other form of "actual endgame" or whatever everyone wants to call it. Just an idea ;)

true beauty fades. but to not finish a project is very disappointing imo, although i wouldn't call this game a creativity type game

we need more balancing and fine tuning before another wipe, i think it'll be around sept/oct/nov that we will see a wipe but it will depend largely on the active devs

The thread is now inaccessible, but xcom's blood maze complaint was a really enlightening read. He had spent a long time building the most complex structure the game has seen in 10 worlds as a community project, but the world was reset one or two weeks before he could finish it.

I understand some worlds need to end for one reason or another, but the fact is that stuff like that kills people's motivation to waste time creating remarkable things. If long-term gameplay isn't rewarded, what remains is a short-term mentality - fight a bit, craft a bit, quit. Slowly, due to frequent resets, it starts making no sense to bother about creating ingame culture, lore, art, and all that makes the world look less like a moba arena.

DaniAngione wrote:but it doesn't take long for the "New World" mob to gather.

They may be loud, but I don't think they're numerous enough to qualify as a mob. It's worth noting that in this thread we have people like ladyv, stya, avu, dafels and jalpha agreeing with each other and that's one of surest ways to know something is wrong. It would be fair to assume that a large part of the playerbase wants more lasting worlds.

I spent years carving a tiered town into the side of a steep mountainside in Wurm. It's still there, somebody else took it over though. I doubt they appreciate how much effort went into it. There's a lot to be said for permanence. Using Wurm as an example it also has a downside. The broken maps on the epic servers are an example of persistence gone wrong. I'm not sure players should have been given the capacity to spawn volcanos and meteorite craters lol.

I made my mark on the map! That's my place against the mountain and the sea. My project to build a ramp to the top of the nearby ridge is visible too. It was all unfinished when this dump was released.
