I think it was planned

Didn't you notice the empty troughs and the absense of grass? These things died from starvation, obviously. Doesn't mean someone's not going to make sausages with them, though.

I assume someone stopped feeding them because farmed much enough of em to reach stat cap. I did the same.
Sometimes some farmed goods have lower value for you because you have enough of it and you reach moment when its worth less than your time and effort sacrificed to get em. It also gets boring after some time and many people decide to do something else.

What about breeding horses to get higher stats for them?
Anyways, I believe that it's more likely an abandoned village: the animals don't die all at once, if left completely without food, they start using grass to feed, so some of them hang on longer than the others. So, we see here something noone bothered to clean up in a while (maybe with some of the corpses already despawned). And I think a village of such magnitude would have at least someone who'd "sausaged" these up, statcap or no statcap, or at very least stacked corpses neatly out of sheer OCD. Ofcourse, all those are mere speculations, just making it a bit more likely to be abandoned than planned.

Doesnt mean you will need pigs and many other things forever, some of em yes, but there are still many which many people aren't gonna farm forever one of reasons is stat cap but there are other too.

This did not come out as expected, but I kinda like it after the initial disappointment wore off. :)

And, still having an affinity with the bats, log off for 5 minutes and meanwhile they gang up to try and prevent me going back above ground. Lol.

There was a wise soviet conscript that was surrounded by the enemy on the battle of Stalingrad. A mortar shot teared his pants apart causing a big hole in his pants right on his right butt cheek. He felt a glorious cold ass breeze of wind on his butt cheek, like it would be sent by stalin himself, he said - hide your butts
