The smelt chance is determined when you mine, based on the ore yield + your skills that improve smelting chance and so on. So technically, if you you could "see" that, you could fill a whole smelter only with ores that will smelt. There is no way of seeing that, however - but sometimes, just like how we end up being unlucky and filling a whole smelter with ores that won't smelt (we've all seen it) there's a chance you'll do the opposite, I guess?

On a side note, the final smelting of all the ore didn't give me more nor less bars than what was expected from the total amount of Black Ore, which means that on a larger scale the statistics still prevailed. I just happened to have this one very lucky smelting and a few very bad ones as well

You reminded me times where i had ql 10 node in my cave and i was so happy to find 2 iron bars smelted and it was my biggest treasure to have a bit of metal
