Yeah, I was surprised too. But turns out it is a very nice thing, because it allows us to place them in places they would otherwise not be allowed to be built directly - for example, on "opened gates" (like the Silver Dragon Inn one) - they "merge" with the gate texture if you use Pine as blocks and it looks very nice!

I made a couple of tests with some images I had but didn't really make a proper template - I just figured it out and have been working with "guesstimates"

But to help out, this is more or less what I've been working with by the eye, so not 100% perfect but I'm pretty sure that within the red borders it should be perfectly safe; it does cut the two large bits on top and bottom and the little corners because of the sign shape.

With the right camera angle, the B12 kinda reminds you of a stylized old Winchester rifle or something like that... and with appropriate clothing, you can now satisfy all your True Grit dreams and go rob some trains.
