Finnish families usually consists of 10-14 members. This is to make sure at least a couple of them live to adulthood.

you guys joke, but I've had issues with that before on other games when I and my kids would want to play the same one. 3-5 accounts show up as the same IP....

Most companies that do some sort of restriction on IPs usually have some level of detection of multiple machines and "play restrictions" on how those accounts can interact. They aren't just going to ban anyone coming from the same IP, and going that route is silly for legitimate use. For people truly multiboxing... yeah, sure, use VPNs.

The flip side is... anyone multiboxing is likely paying for more than one account. not always, and especially with f2p games. Still, I'm one of the multiboxers. If it's that big of a deal, I don't play the game. I don't have much money to give to game devs, but if you don't want me at all, I can not only not give you no money, I can also not give you my eyeballs or time. it may seem like nothing, but my eyeballs and time come with my mouth, which is usually pretty good at spreading negative ratings when I so choose.

Think your server is about to actually flip over and die, devs.

Might be time for that migration. I understand you probably don't want to do it during peak hours/prime time. But I'm sure I speak for the majority when I say we'd rather not play than play with the current situation.

IP is not the only way to determine users. You can generate computer fingerprint, by combining parts of hash of specific components, OS settings, browser settings and so on. Preferably having a few different fingerprints can be helpful in determining if someone is using a few computers on the same network or multiple clients on the same computer. This can also be used to silently track botters, if for example all clients have randomly generated fingerprint on the same network or exactly same fingerprint on same pc. All normal users can be easily distinguished from bot clients on server side, because fingerprint parts are the same for the same component in any computer.

All of those things are parts that the client would have to provide the server with, so anyone would be able to send fake data.
