Good question. We've had some performance problems around launches before, but a lot of those have been bugs and stuff that has actually been fixed since, so I don't think we actually know. I would guesstimate that we reach full capacity at around 1500 players or so. Hard to say.

There are improvements in the pipe to potentially increase that number significantly, but they have thus far never been a priority.

With continents it may be possible to have multiple servers, 1 continent at each server, and then some dynamic switching and syncing between these servers so it would seem to the player that he is in one, large, single world. I guess that could happen even without continents, but continents give a more natural way of doing it.
Probably too much for 2-man (or 1-man) project. But that would enable the ability to handle large amounts of players while still having one world where people can go around, trade with each other and so on.

Issue with this is unless you will have some thing like ''bad storm'' that prevent men from entering continent once too many men are on it, there is no thing preventing all of the men to go to single continent all at once.

Continents would fill up, so there wouldn't be space for all, and there would be lag.
That would make players want to spread out a bit to different continents.

Yes, a server farm would not only need to be able to hand over users transparently, but also to resize the areas managed by individual machines to adjust for load.

Doable, but not a trivial problem to solve.

i seriously think it will get higher than 1500 prob should have that improvement on hand at launch of w11.

wasn't world 8 the biggest start since it when all 3d and shit?

ultimately I think even if it peaks at 2000 there will likely be the same 200-300 later in the year. because to me havens biggest problem is its longevity/grind, and the reverse hockey-stick graphs agree.

Fairly certain World 8 wasn't as big as it could have been due to the old payment model and the outrage that came from people after seeing they had to pay anything at all (lmao tbh) to play.
I remember being in the fairly huge threads on 4chan when it was happening and people thought it was an elaborate ruse. It was comedy gold, but for real though it did without a doubt turn a lot of people off at the time since it came out of nowhere.
Then again though, now that I think about it we got the first week or two for free anyway, right? So that shouldn't really factor in to things. Oh well whatever.

The exact same as literally every single world since World 4: peak 1000-ish players for the first week or so of the world, then dwindling to a couple hundred online for weeks/months to come, leveling out at like 100-200 players until the next world reset (in 2022).
