You're the one not making sense, there's a big difference between supposedly having the highest quality metal (which you've offered no proof of) during the early game and having a b12 one month ago at q250 quality when anvil and hammer qualities were only just reaching that point. You HAVE to spiral the leather or the quality would have gone down.
