How much bandwidth does the server have? Just out of curiosity.
To be honest, I'm not sure exactly where the problem lies. To begin with, Hetzner has some automatic DDoS protection that does in fact kick in a minute or so into each attack, significiantly reducing the traffic, and at that point the remaining traffic arriving at the server is below the link bandwidth (which is 1 Gbps). The traffic arriving at the server seems to hover around 100-200 Mbps at that point. I'm not entirely sure if the remaining problems at that point are caused by network congestion in the part of Hetzner's network that is in front of the DDoS protection, or if it's something related to how the game server handles its network buffering (there could be local queues overflowing before the server gets to handle it). I'm still investigating that.
