I'm surprised Jorb doesn't act on this ridiculous situation, not only is it terrible advertising for the game but denies us all communication ... so, ok, not many of us left now but new players still finding us and joining and needing guidance, not much of a good impression made when they open up the chat and no way of asking questions or finding friends inside the game.

If allowing the players control to impose their own rules in their own realm chat is detrimental to the game and community, surely some adjustments need to be made.

Bring back world chat and give us back the ability to actually be a community!

Amanda, this is truly disappointing coming from you.

To say that this spam in realm chat is bad for the advertising of the game is just silly - why should the game lie to new players, and for how long should this facade be implemented before they join a community like discord and learn about how the game really is? It's an incredibly backhanded argument.

You also seem to have forgotten the fact that realm chat is a privilege. It is not even available for the first many many months of the world, and if it weren't for Snail's arguably autistic efforts in spreading their realm so vastly across the world, the average player would not have access to it anyways. It is not a global chat, and confusing it as such is just being intentionally ignorant. There have been worlds where there are massive blank spots in realms this late in the world, where noobs can spawn in to the world and not even know that realms exist. To be a veteran player and act like realm chat is a privilege is more harmful and dishonest to new players than being banned from one to begin with. I would honestly argue that having to experiment and play the game for yourself without immediate ingame aid is actually better for a new joiner.

Plus, ofcourse, there are literally dozens of online communities across many platforms that offer players the ability to ask questions and get helpful answers. This forum being one of them.

I am not confusing realm chat with global chat though, hence asking for a global chat to be brought back, I think it's important for new players to be able to chat and ask questions in game and not be hindered by typing a question and immediately being banned, imho it does not give a good impression. Without a global chat this is what new players are faced with.

I feel exactly the same when it comes to opening the chat and seeing what is displayed atm. Yes, you can argue that hiding it is indeed lying to the new player who will eventually find out that this is how a section of the playerbase play, however, this is not necessarily how the majority play. But, before they even get to know the game, fall in love with it (or not) and get to know others in the community or indeed how anyone plays they are faced with a chat of bots.

It is detrimental to the game imo, as I have said before, I'm fine with Snail playing his games but there should be an in game platform that is free for everyone to use and communicate in.

Trying to 'belittle' me for that does not change the way I feel.

Oh and I forgot to say, I can't think of an mmo I've played that doesn't have an in game chat be it voice, typed or both regardless of the existence of other external platforms such as skype, discord, etc ... in my experience it has never silenced the in game chat, same as it didn't here. Until now.

You're right that at least peeps could sneak in some helpful chatter in between the chatspam bots. Hypothetically.

I'm sure that's true Phaen but I honestly don't remember it being that much of an issue in Legacy, maybe I'm mistaken, it definitely isn't that big of an issue in other games I play, ofc, not saying it never occurs ... maybe those individuals are less noticeable in bigger communities and ofc some of those chats are moderated tbf.

But on the whole, most players in games just want to simply play the game.

Well, for fear of further derailing a bit: I know Ender and some of the other forks in legacy* integrated the IRC chat into the client, which was moderated by a mixed group outside of jorb and loftar (though they almost always had admin privileges over the channel). I have honestly never recalled an actual "world chat" inside the client before other than that.


*might have been the Pacho client first, maybe the Goon client... I really don't recall who did it "first." I just recall it was there in w3 when I finally decided to move to a mod client because trying to play at 640x480 was silly (that and boars hiding behind trees... damn boars!).

Oh wow! There's actully been some mid-scale raiding this world? Seems like the last few worlds have been the perrty small game raids that are always at the start of a world and after everyone is established only maybe one or two huge wars. Way to go Queen Snails for keeping things SPICY!

SnuggleSnail discovered that raiding is actually really easy once you set up bots linked to Discord, where they will ping you if anybody tires to destroy the Ram.
