It is always a bad idea to rely on one person to be responsible for all the fun, easy transportation and etc. around the map. :D
Same as relying on the community to not to be assholes to the noobs, or do some political games and etc. If there are no mechanics supporting it, so the gain vs the work would seem to be feasible, no-one going to do it. This is why there are not that many cultural places, inns, or even the local markets.

So yeah, hopefully this paragraphs answers to the stupid remarks like "Oooh, if you care so much, why you don't do it".

Roads suck massive fucking dick, are easy as shit to bash, and consequently just lead to these massively shitty road bashing wars.

then make a bot that builds roads? it's easy af
liek i have this bot that's playing the game for me
it has a working pathfinder synchronized with the map, it has a human like AI that can fight other players and animals, plan raids and other things like building villages from scratch and more, it also has a linguistic module so it can analyse the weekly updates and adjust to the changes automatically
like this very post was written by that bot

From what I've seen there's a large number of players that don't even leave their walls to do things like hunt and forage until the players opposite their time zone are in bed (or are likely to be), what might the reasons for this be?

What is confusing about that, my wording? Example: Player A gets home from work at 6 PM EST but waits a couple of hours until 8 PM EST to ensure players in an EU timezone would most likely be in bed at that point, lessening the chance for a run in with another player.

Why would someone do this is my question.

Oh, I see. I think you say ''opposite timezone'' I think 12 hours disparity. I think these players probably are not playing from e.g. 6am-12pm if I am play after work so I was confused what you mean for waiting.

Anyway, I have not do this personally, but I think if player will do it is is because it is lessening the chance for a run in with another player.

Maybe he wants to eat dinner with his non existant family and chill? It's not like we all have to get on right after we get off work, some of us do other things i'm sure.

lol, the point I'm trying to make is that based on my own experience from people I've played with and spoken to there will be lots of players who play like that in order to hopefully avoid running in to another person at all. This is bad for the game and it's obvious the only reason for doing this is to avoid getting ganked, something which even the pvp-centric players have admitted is a huge issue.

And yet here they are in this thread saying roads are fine, it's safe to travel, blah blah blah when this is not the case at all. I could make the same argument to them that they made to LadyGoo, if she wants charter stones all over the world then all they really want is a bunch of roads they can use to go and raid players more easily.
