Wurm game play is limited if you don't pay a monthly subscription. I played for abit, there are level caps in place (lvl 20) certain buildings and items which can't be done unless you pay.. also there is no way to stop decay without paying. Even claiming a piece of land cost money

On a positive note through the crafting system was aswome. You craft the individual parts for things like carts such as the wheels and axle. Once all the parts are crafted then you can build the item..

wurm have a in-game currency system that works incredibly well, for as small the game and as large the servers are. I think is one of the best economy buildings ever made in an online game that involves real money too.

... like, you know, I'm not necessarily saying it's not a problem, but surely there must be better examples of "simple tasks".

We have at times considered similar "intermediate items" for Haven, but ultimately decided against most of them since they are mostly pointless. If wood blocks make axles, and axles make carts, then it seems the cart blueprint can just take the wood blocks directly.

Yeah, but in Wurm you can make many things with the intermediate items, you craft a shaft...then, for example, with the shaft (and others things) you can make different tools.
A deeper crafting system would be cool on Haven, too...i guess we/you have higher priority right now, but for sure would be cool...

I think loftar is say: why craft wood block -> shaft and shaft -> axe and shaft -> hammer. Instead of just do wood block -> axe and wood block -> hammer.

Makes no sense, it's a freaking game..that's why, then why playing the game at all? and not pressing a button = YOU WIN.
It would add a deeper dimension to the crafting, like i said, in Wurm you can make a lot of things with intermediate items...you can even fight with a shaft...better than bare hands.
A suggestion could be, adding the famous decaying/rotten things...so worked items last long than primary resources...or take less space, or idk, it's just an example.
For sure i'm agree with you makes no sense in the same way if intermediate items have no function at all....but they are required to implement a deeper crafting system, that i think we don't need on this game right now...H&H crafting is pretty good as it is, we need a lot of others things first...

Crafting of parts have a point in wurm because of how their system works, not much sense in H&H, also in that way you loose more time by crafting everything with basic pieces (sort of Lego), it's more grindy too, in a different fashion, but in that case is a game feature.
