Different worlds on different clusters would cut down on lag.

Then when battles or sieges happen, then computer reources can be used to keep it stable.

the answer is - 3. something different:
after vortex teleport, even if only one map tile is missing to connect.. the surrounding is black.. so the discovered map tile can not be scrolled to something "known". i sailed towards my hearth fire and after some time, my discovered vertex-path got suddenly connected to the known map when i hit a known maptile.. not befor that

so, no parallel maps or far away super grids. its all the same map, but you are not able to scroll from the vortex discovered map part to the already known map part until you "manually" connect them via travelling -> thats probably the source of confusion and the different maps theory
[...]

I can confirm this. I used a road to teleport in a place that I have not visited before. Then I searched where I am on the map, but no known map tiles are shown. Then I moved a single minimap and I found the start of the road, and suddenly on the map I can find myself and everything else.

I was just in the NW corner ... I put a carved runestone saying "Pay your taxes" in front of a few settlements. Yes, the world does feel smaller. I'm having a hard time finding a relatively private location.

All I ask is a tall ship... and a cave on a river.

World 8 was a bit odd shaped. It had multiple corners in each quadrant.

Hmm, I've traveled W border to East & have found (A?) NE corner. I can confirm that if the world is square then it's 250x250 tiles... If Daldal's Map is indeed a NE corner..., dun, du, dun, dun..., then we are indeed living in a multiverse.... *Goes into hiding from the screamers of heresy...*
