What the game actually needs are better ways for players to protect themselves against those types of threats.

I agree. Pvp is a cancer and it should be removed from the game. Or, at least, vandalism and claimbashing disabled for the time reasonable spruce cap can put up a dried palisade, i.e. 5 days
or made significantly more expensive
or maybe the issue is that in this world, everything is faster
idk. id personally remove pvp

dumb take.

People gotta learn to hide and have backups.. don't invest heavily in one place until palisade. the early stage is very nomad, random bases/bits dotted about, you can totally defend yourself in pvp if you get moves but most wont bother even trying to fight back.

Everything that is not behind a dry palisade wall should just be considered "Okay to lose" things that you need to require like dried hides/tanning tubs should be dotted about in multiple locations, if you don't have back ups to your backups you are not preparing yourself for the worst. Your first cave claim MIGHT be left alone, but don't take that risk. easy. Nothing but your characters hide/leather maybe study desk is worth anything so don't worry about it. crack on with it. Move away with your developed characters and try over, it will work out for you. it looks like you are played with a fairly sizable group you should totally have the ability to make multiple cave claim bases.

Take it how you will mate, just telling you how it is, make backups. expect your base to be raided hide shit. We got a palisade up now and we lost a whole cave base at the start of day 2 too. just gotta roll with the punching or steal someone elses leather/hide to catch up.

Palisades also take a good amount of time to become unbashable. It’s less about being able to make invincible walls fast (which would make griefing worse) and more about avoiding detection. Only monkeys level and pave before pali

Probably you're aware that all claims are visible on the minimap as soon as you open a tile map. Of course, you can choose not to set any claim at all, but then your stuff will be stolen or scattered by anyone among the 800 people, not just the 50 psychos who don't sleep for two days straight and boost rage and vandalism.

There is no protection from this except being part of a similar gang, or simply not playing during the first week. This happens in every world with everyone who plays solo or in a small group. If you didn't start in H&H from the beginning, you'd likely be looted by the third day.

Which is desperately, obviously very stupid. It's like the community and the developers have a compulsion to prevent new players from ever getting to try enough of the game to get hooked and stick around.

If some new folks show up for the new world, find out the claim doesn't protect anything, the walls don't protect anything, and their progress is only ever protected if it goes undetected by some no-lifer who actually wants them to quit, they will actually quit and go play something with better design.

To say nothing if the impenetrable nature of the combat system. Imagine the newb who has enough gumption to try to fight it out, seeing the combat system pop up for the first time.

I'd love if more people would come and give cash to this game to support its ongoing development, but I can't see a route to a new player wanting to do so.
