It's not an hardware failure, it's a software one. There is a bug in the code that causes the server to crash. It would crash exactly the same even if you rented out an Amazon EC2 with 20 Xeon processors.
That being said, setting up a hearbeat system that reacts to a lack of response from the server by restarting it is not a difficult task, Loftar. Even if it means the server will stand up with the bug still in the code, at least people will get to play the game (unless it's an exploit somebody jsut figured out and will abuse it to down the server all the time - you can avoid that by not auto-restarting a server if it downed two times in a specified timespan). It's also possible to setup a simple messaging service that will send you an email when the server goes down, then you will get a beep on your phone if you have internet access.

InfernoI wrote:Perhaps, but perhaps not. I don't know what kind of server they have but I'm going to go out on a limb here and assume that two guys with no real retail backing can't afford a very grandiose server, and still afford the cost of living. NOW that the game has a small amount of monetization involved, they can definitely afford a better server. A stronger foundation built to support the needs of their playerbase, and maybe bring in a larger playerbase.
