Well you asked why anyone would bother using some hermit's road and my response is that a reason is never needed, if you saw a road you'd go and check it out and if you saw a player on the other end you'd go and kill them. That's all the "reason" there is. And please don't pretend you wouldn't make use of some road that went halfway across the map or further if you knew of it regardless of who made it. My point was that is exactly why many players
don't build those kinds of roads.
yeah, by your logics these players would not build villages, or build anything because players will be checking them out constantly and might catch you outside walls.
yeah, all the factions are literally camping the roads 24/7 when they could had been camping rival faction roads and not giving a rest to the hermits.
Most of the inner party are stuck in the old legacy havens times when there was no punishment at all for doing any damage to other. They haven't played the actual game and don't know how things have changed and make their assumes based on their experience from the old time and have no idea of the impact of the change just like Jorb and Loftar when they make updates, because they don't play the game. Most of the player base is not going to murder your poor random hermit just to get red-handed and outlaw debuffs for 9 days and then get nidbanes on you and many of the times some "justice bringers" or "the police" or the rival faction would track down the criminal and shit on him. It is not like it was in legacy when you could kill players as much as you want end getting no punishment like nothing happened, that is why people are not killing the hermits or the noobs or the people that are not worth it as much people used to in the old game. And the most of the players would consider your poor hermit in the not worth it category I can't say that about other poor hermits that actually like going around to kill people. If a faction would meet the poor hermit on one of the road ends the chance that they will just ignore him is like 90% and consider that the chance even meeting someone at the road is very low, but it is natural to fear someone who is stronger than you.

I wasn't saying it should be safe to travel I'm just saying there's a huge lack of social interaction (be it a positive or negative interaction) and a major contributory factor of this is indeed how some players play in order to avoid those dangers. I'm not really suggesting anything to alleviate the problem at the moment as I really don't have a solution, only making it known that it exists.
I don't get why is there such a need for more "social interaction" features right now? Devlopers should focus on bringing new features in the game instead of focusing on things that the game does not really need right now. Noone is playing the game for social interaction, if it would be like that none of the big villages that thrive of social interaction would quit, the first huge villages usually quit 2-3 months in the game and is not because "there is no social interaction in the game booohooo " which they have in the big villages or "there is no song contest events in the sevilla market", it is because that the game lacks basic fun features and they reach the point where they just log in unwillingly to feed your animals and do your routine and log out. It is not "lack of social interaction" or players getting killed that are decreasing the player count, it is just, because there is no end game content in the game at all and I would not consider social interaction to be the end-game content that would keep playing the game despite all the unfun shit. For me and many others combat is the end-game content for many right now aswell for the ones who craft and farm and build industries, grind qualities just for combat, but the state of combat is real bad right now and why would they do it now, thats not the reason why people are playing anymore. Or other people that like to build a lot for end-game or the few individuals that like to constantly harvest their crops and trade for the end game they are not getting anything new and quit until the next world. It is really hard to think of the reasons why would people play the game when they have reached the endgame and thats what they should work on right now. The social interaction as in meeting new people on the rivers as you are boating and social interacting with them or having "events at sevilla" is not why people play this game. There are way more important aspects that developrs need to work, so people would actually keep playing. The only fix for this is that haven has constant world resets or waiting a few years until devs make shittons of actual end-game systems in the game. Having 2 servers would not be bad too, one for the ones who enjoy building n shit , the peaceful side of haven and the other one for more hardcore since these 2 sides never interact in the game apart of one side getting raided or whatever it is, so the devs could fully work in the interests of all players and add features to both sides without the worry that these 2 sides of gaming style might conflict and make them ruin each other gaming experience in this game as you could see when features like visitor debuff got added that alot of people mad. All I have seen from the developers is that they have been just adjusting the same old shit all the time in their updates and not adding anything new that is meaningful for the end-game content and working on the social interaction right now is just waste of time when its proven not to be a player-keeping thing when theres way more other things that need to be done.
