Is it just me or server is lagging heavily? I get like 3-5 sec freezes every minute or so

loftar wrote:There is some kind of weird lag, but it doesn't seem to be server-side. I'm not sure yet what's up with it. I've seen this kind of behavior previously, but it usually goes away too quick for me to track it down.

I'm currently trying to find the cause, but I can't say I have any terribly good clues yet.

it may have been for 20 mins for players, but what loftar said as "quick" is not about how long you have been experiencing the lag as the result. the thing appears to happen intermittently and dont expect me to explain what it actually means! (its about tech stuff, so just understand that loftar is currently working on it.)

It seems that some peoples' clients are spamming the server with map requests, and that it is the sheer amount of inbound traffic that is causing the lag. I'm currently investigating the default client to see if it could do something like this, but I can't currently find anything. I suspect custom clients do something weird, but if anyone finds anything, please tell me.

In particular, these clients keep spamming a request for the same map-grid constantly, which as far as I can tell, the default client properly rate-limits.

Maybe you should do a rollback.

Yes, let's derail every thread with this.
