But that's exactly how it is now. Infinite growth means you need to maintain the first derivative of your stat growth, or you will fall behind. Massive diminishing returns mean that it's easier to get stats at lower levels.

With the difference that an approach where one has to maintain the current absolute level it would limit the maximum qualities in the world, opening the way for an eternal one - while the current where one has to maintain the relative (to other players) level to stay competitive isn't welcoming to latecomers.

From that perspective the suggestion made by ydex is superior to the current mechanics.

Any uncapped function is unacceptable. If there really *must* be infinite stat growth, their effects must be on something like a logistic function.

Requirement for such a mechanic would be to work in a way that, beyond a certain level, makes it imposible to out-eat/study it - while at the same time not getting that much in the way of reaching (and keeping) a certain level (which would also need to be determined, as it would set the baseline for the average quality in the world).

Currently at a loss on how this could work, apart from ticking away a % of every individual attribute/ability each ingame day...

Stat decay sucks

Statcaps and some group pve/raids to fill in the endgame a little better would be nice

I'm ambivalent about stat decay because sometimes its nice to take a break from this game.
I'm not really against it if it was done thoughtfully, though.

It'll just make the game feel tedious. I would rather see the stats grind becoming inefficient vs. players at a certain point: maybe determined by the weapon and armour/guilding q. used + still having the meaning to grind against NPC (trolls, mammoths and etc.).

I think back on the old forums Kaios had a c&i thread a long time ago about combat caps based on equipment quality, which I remember as being pretty nice.
I think that it shouldn't matter whether its PvE or PvP: as people said here, there can't be any "endgame" PvE content if you can always outstat it at some point.

@potjeh: I don't like it! Much prefer the self-similar power laws for everything that we have now.

The mean stat scores of all players should be calculated. Being above/below the mean incurs fep bonuses or deductions
