Low density of stone in an area generally means a lot of player traffic. This can be seen as a red flag because 1) Players can be dangerous and 2) Players are locusts that strip regions. You may want to find somewhere a little less traveled.

There are areas of the game utterly devoid of stone and definitely not locusted by players yet (no other signs of the region being touched). I walked 1.5 hours without seeing a surface stone.

It also doesn't entirely depend on the biome. I've seen dark forests with and without stones before.

Doesn't seem to be dependent on biome\players activity only. I have traveled like 5 hours away from the starting point, and came on an area with different biomes, all of which had very rare stones, if any at all. Had to travel a little bit back to settle down.

So not sure, does it mean there are less stones the further we are from the starting locations? Or just a random coincidence?
