I mean I know that makes sense in terms of realism, but in a gameplay sense that was like: Hey, they are already worse than other animals, so let's make them completely useless!

Indeed, after my first encounter with baddies, i never even bothered to repopulate pigs. Best case scenario if they breed fast you could argue for high quality pig hides/bones after much grinding. *shrug* other than that they seem useless.

I was born and raised on a farm and pigs have to feed their young on milk so they do give milk in a way. same as the sheep.
