Brodgar and Bug Raiding?

Postby Acefirebird » Wed Apr 13, 2016 8:49 pm

Hello friends,

Where even is Brodgar? I'm still kind of a noob and I didn't realize there were actual organized villages scattered around until just two weeks ago. Reading about these empires has opened my eyes to just how dedicated some people are to this game. Anyway, one place I've been hearing about a lot is "Brodgar" (?) and I was wondering what and where it is. I think it would be cool to take a road trip there for a day or two because my friend and I have never actually seen any other players in game. That's pretty crazy considering we've been playing for four years (on and off for four years, but still four years). I feel like I'm climbing out from underneath a rock when reading about all these groups and stuff  .

Also, what is "bug raiding". That term seems to pop up everywhere but I have no idea what it means.

Thanks,
Ace
Spooky.

Bug raiding is meaning to use a bug or glitch in the game to raid, instead of using the mechanics of catapults and rams to break in.

Brodgar is a village which was started by Yolan at the beginning of the second world.

I've linked the idea thread which preceded it in the first world.

Originally, all hearthlings spawned from one location in the center of the map, called the Ring of Brodgar. The village is named after this ring.

The ring persists, even today, at the center coordinate of every world (0, 0).

Yolan also used to make a village called Brodgar, regularly, every world, up until world 7, where after some hundred or so people settled, it was raided into inactivity. Eventually, Yolan hung up his hat on the idea of Brodgar. Will he return? Who knows. The leadership of Brodgar was handed off to the chieftain at the time who, without great success, kept the heart of Brodgar beating until the release of Hafen.

What transpired some months after Yolan's disappearence, was the arrival of a man named Robben DuMarsch, who created a location called New Brodgar. This village existed simultaneously with the Chieftain's Brodgar, and the "New" was intended to distinguish the two villages.

Eventually, during World 8, and this current world, "World 9," Robben carried the standard of "New Brodgar," presenting a promise of a grid-based village with, more-or-less, an uninvolved political body.

Haven & Hearth history is very fun—early H&H history, especially.
>_> Someone should organize it into some easy-to-read form.

Sprucecaps, defined by the hat they wear, are considered a pestilence by some, a target by others and few seem willing to help them. A sprucecap can be a noob or a veteran posturing as a noob.

The factions though I will leave to someone who has been here longer than World 6.

1 and 2: Groups/villages started way back when. Not sure if they're still around, I don't peruse the moot very often.

3: The boogeyman for most people. Actually a group of people not dissimilar to AD and DIS. May have bugraided? Again, not quite up to speed on current haven politiks.

"A fukken spruce cap" was started when Hafen (Haven & Hearth 2) launched with a cap available in the store. It's green and pretty much looks like a spruce cap from the default game (on the icon, anyways.) However, in-game it looks more like Link's cap from the Zelda games.

I would very love if someone can post some information on faction history. Even just a high overview. Last I played I think I can remember some village with name ''Sodom,'' so I think it can be obvious I am now very out of touch with this one.
