That's what we usually do at my place as well. Did our dinner last night and exchanged presents a few days before, but then again, I work today so it just made more sense

I guess that in Finland the real reason is that then you can recover from the hangover on the actual-holiday-day.

Merry Christmas a couple days late, everyone. Happy New Year!

I don't do the picture thing, but dinner is the whole family getting together (about 20 of us, 4 generations). It was a Tex-Mex/Mexican-American thing with enchiladas and a few other things we all like, but seem to be such a chore to make on a regular basis for just a few people. My grandfather, a native Texan, got this started several years ago, and it's become a tradition since.
