I will admit I didn't click the link and the answer might be there if I look hard enough, but how would you code permanent animals into a game where only the parts of the world are loaded where players run around without increasing the load to much on the servers (let them simulate the world as a simpler form like X3-reunion did with behaviours for all kinds of animals)?

I don't know tbh, I don't think it's impossible but for sure there are higher priority rn, however nature, wildlife, hunting, fishing and so on in my opinion should be one of the main focus of this game that would differentiate it from the usual mmorpg experience .... meat bags doesn't really make sense to me in h&h, otherwise give us also fireballs and frenetic combat ..... but, I mean, if you want that there re better options than haven.

P.S.
And seasons are a very good step in that direction ... now they need mechanics, for example winter may be pvp time from what I'm reading, low resources,it's cold and people is hungry ... be afraid of the beast, cause it's out there.
