This waiting for patch thing got me remembering my oldschool MMO days; bOy, HaVe I gOt SoMe StOrIeS!.
Sincerely though, I started as a young teen on The Legend of Mir - did anyone else play that?
LoM was a Chinese diabalo clone with 3 classes and such abominably low drop rates that only 1 single character on the entire server had the top tier armour (They used to parade it around town, really). It was often that characters used 'hand me down' guild gear multiple levels below their own. The best thing about this was that it made everything valuable, created busy text based market palces (no autovendors! Players had to personally sell stuff beween themselves) and deathly incouraged Player killing (PK) for a chance at carried gear.
I found some of my old posts of the guild forum, wayback machine. It's so cringe but it was good at the time.
Anyway, I went off to Ragnarok after LoM went bust. EVE Online after that for much of my adult life - I never really got far in any, no MVP battles in Rag, nor barely a touch of Null and Capitals in EVE. Even LoM, my wizard was lvl36 out of .. max 50, and he was always poor.
These days I'm not playing much. I'm trying to get back into EVE, finally trying corp CEO but going is slow as home situation is limited my engagability. Hearth is, well.. not so interesting right now.
Did anyone check out that DUNE game? I know it's not quite an MMORPG but it was on my radar, even though it seems to have made minimal spash. I haven't heard a single thing about faction gameplay, but I haven't looked much. I bought into PirateSoftware's hype, damn.
