The Hermitarium (Knowledge group)

Postby Archiplex » Mon Aug 31, 2015 8:10 am

I want to start a little group of people (We could use this thread even!) That don't particularly live together, but work together to figure out Hafen, what's different and what's similar to Haven and just work out details of the game, including (but not limited to) how Combat works, Hunting strategies, different recipes, crafting discoveries, how to obtain things, smithing, etc. Just a general group trying to figure out the game together reducing the total amount of trial and error

If enough people are interested, we could totally start a skype group. There is no 'village' ingame, but it could be something I do in the future if people want to move together (And after jorb adds a new method of locating friends).

If you want to join the skype group, please add me on skype: rainingrainers

Charcoal for crucibles/smelters are gained from Tar Kilns after they burn out. A single log takes 2-3 hours, it is unknown how much it will burn for if maxed out.
Clay is gained from digging on coastal waters, there are no nodes but each tile will give 1-3 clay, sometimes up to 10.
Toads/frogs are two different things and both give discovery FP, double dip!
Caveins have a small dust particle warning that will happen as you mine, if you wait a little bit, it won't cave in; all ores and stones have a visible texture on cave walls or boulders.

Curios:
Toy Chariots give a LOT of LP for a low amount of weight
Dice are rolled on creation (Two are given), the higher the roll the more LP.

Nice thread, I'll be sure to add some notes later. Off the top of my head I've found the following:

Itsy Bitsy Web from foraging Blueberries. Gives lots of LP but takes roughly 36 hours.

Cat gold
catgold.png

Found while chipping dolomite.

Gold pebbles - found while digging clay. No idea what use it has right now, and it has no quality.

Birch bark backpack - Made with 6 birch bark, 2 string. Recipe discovered when collecting bark from a birch tree.

Hey, catgold actually seems reasonably useful now. :/ Atleast early on.

A good idea to keep in mind that if you ride a horse until it's out of stamina, it will kick you off dealing around 60 SHP, but no HHP damage.

Might be common knowledge but the best bet for a fresh player is to immediately grind your Exploration and Survival, as well as intelligence.

Exploration helps you find more curiosities which give you more LP.
Survival increases the quality of the items you find, which increases the quality of everything's outcome. Higher quality dandelions give more LP, for example.
Intelligence increases the amount of "mental weight" you have, AKA, more room for curiosities.

Hey, don't really want to write a guide but I'd be happy to answer questions. So far I've killed every animal except a horse (damn things are rare) with a combination of UA and MM.

You can in fact wall in bears, boars and deer. They no longer seem to break things to get at you so until it updates you are safe to use signs with 1 stick built in. Cliff glitches seem highly dangerous and rarely work, however one thing me and my friends have noticed is that animals won't swap aggro.

So I've aggroed bears, ran into my boat. Than a friend's walked up, poked it a few times and fenced it in. Than one arrow from a nearby landmass sends it running, though it can't actually move. You then need to punch it to death.

Please note though, sometimes animals stop running and turn back on you, got kicked by a deer for 168 SHP and 30 HHP earlier today.... so I won't be hunting again anytime soon.

*I'd also be interested in a skype group, maybe even to facilitate trades between helpfully minded small groups/people? Also as an info dump :P

If anyone is interested in this skype group, I'll be starting one now as a big discussion group for anyone interested in figuring out the game. Updated OP with my skype info ( rainingrainers). As for your hunting experiences:

What's your general method to kill faster animals using UA? About how much health does a bear have?

For faster animals, we have been caging them in so that they can't run. As for getting them to the trap in the first place.... run and have a lot of water in your backpack heh.

bears have approximately 750 health, as 4 arrows of 180ish damage and then a 20 damage punch will kill them.

Fair as well, I couldn't decide which board to put it in since it also was a group.
