Wiki Mini-Reclamation Project

Postby Duane » Sun Apr 10, 2016 12:11 pm

After putting roughly ~8 hours into editing individual wiki pages on the Ring of Brodgar wiki, I decided it might be better to crowdsource some of this than do the investigative work myself. Most notably because these aren't things I know how to - or am able to - either find, or test. Filling in the high-level-play gap is pretty hard when you don't have the means to get every relevant discovery, have the ability to see every forage-able, or have the ability to find and fight every creature.

Soon.

Regardless, brass tax. If anyone is able to get me any of this information, I'll do my part by stitching it into the wiki by hand. As I do that, I'll cross it off on this list to signify that it's done. I'm still rusty on most of the formatting and I think some of the metaobj stuff is either set up wrong, or has gaps, but I'll do my best. If you have the initiative about you to do it yourself, by all means, feel free. If, in alternate, you find something on the wiki that NEEDS UPDATING, most importantly FORMULAS, PM me or post here and I'll add it to the list.

Brotip: If making a page for an in-game inventory item, the relevant icons can generally be gotten by using the following link, edited to include the name of the item in question.

Example: http://game.havenandhearth.com/mt/r/gfx ... dragonhelm

I have no idea how to change the Required By tab. I expected it to be retroactive, and so searched out silk cloth items. Few stated their need for silk cloth, but updating them did not change Silk Cloth's 'Required By' tab. Descrepancy in the [[requires:]] property I think, no idea how to change it.

Animals:
  • Ants - There is currently no non-legacy page for Ants. Will fix.
    HHP

  • Lynx - Honestly, even I haven't really seen one for very long.
COMBAT BEHAVOIR - I'm pretty sure they run from you if you walk too fast near them. It's how I typically encounter them. I see them at the corner of my minimap and then they flee.

    Biome Info
Icon for Moose Meat - No page.

  • Mouflon - Half old, half new. At least there's a page.
    Combat Portrait
Specific Info: Do clovers still average if stacked? Can multiple clovers be given at once?
    Screenshot
    Combat Moves etc
    Defensive Moves / Icons

    Portrait (???)
    Screenshot (Male, Female, Baby)

  • Silkmoth - Icons (Male/Female)

  • Squirrel - Screenshot.

  • Troll - Oh boy. Tweet me them deets.
    HHP / Cave Level
    Screenshot
    Portrait (Is there one?)
    Combat Moves / etc
    Defensive Moves / Icons
    List of Types
    Refined information of each type
Refined information of each type's unique drop
Refined spawning information. How frequent? More frequent lower down? How specifically are they spawned?
    Do they ever flee?
Are their melee attacks a guaranteed oneshot or is it survivable given defenses?
How does their ranged attack work?
Can they cross shallow water or deep water?

  • Wild Horse - Meh.
    HHP
    Screenshot
    Portrait
    Combat Moves / Etc
    Defenses / Icons[
Mechanics:

  • Taming - No non-legacy info.

  • Mining - Lots of Legacy stuff.
    Can caveins kill y/n
    Mining Methods
    Updated safety guide
    C O N F I R M : Ores / Layer distribution.
    C O N F I R M : Ore / Bar % distribution per skill learned instead of base only.
    Average Hardness / Layer
    Average Quality / Layer

  • Attributes - Needs fleshed out. List of things each attribute softcaps/affects etc.

  • Abilities - Needs fleshed out. List of things each ability softcaps etc.

  • Sericulture - Legacy info still relevant. Mostly just needs updated icons/flowchart. I just want to cross it off a list.

  • Combat - Bits and bobs.
    Agility Factoring
    Icons for combat moves
Complete ACCURATE list of what creature gives what combat moves
Combat move damage formulas per move/weight.

  • Healing - Formatting mostly.
Icons for all wounds. Missing: Severe Mauling
Page needs to be turned into a chart, like Combat. In order: Wound, Causes, Medicine/Treatment. -Done, beautiful

  • Metal Working - OUTDATED
Needs a new chart including all ores and bars. - Done. Beautiful. Feels good.

  • Hide Drying - Hide drying times for each hide. I've noticed wide variance.

  • Spitroasting - Basically no relevant pages.
Spitroasting times. Chart preferable. One column for time spent to cook, another for time spent cooking if you actually rotate the spit.
Slow-roasting times/results. I assume you aren't ALWAYS supposed to get ash but this shit basically takes as long as steelmaking. Please advise.

  • Equipment - Many armor pieces have no info, 90% of armor pages are legacy.
Steel Gear is basically all still legacy/old icons. Updated several, needs more work, equations.
ALL gear needs equations for what relevant quality affects what relevant property. Durability, Deflection, etc.
ALL gear needs redone equations for stats given due to relevant qualities. High vitality armor has more absorption but costs more agility etc(?)

  • Satiations - Recently reworked(?), need some information on them to make a proper page. Will use icons etc. Charts :^)
Does having multiple satiations above 100% increase a food that overlaps both twice?
Exact % per drink gained per quality etc etc

Required by is automatic.
If you have for example item called "Branch" and then you have item called "Cone Cow". Then the wiki will automatically add "Cone Cow" as one of uses for branch if you have stated that one of materials for conecow is "Branch". Quite simply.

So why didn't it retroactively update the page for Silk Cloth? It's still listed as having basically no uses despite having roughly twenty. It's listed on pages for the Silk Napkin, Tablecloth, Ribbon, Merchant's Robe, Ranger's Cape, etc. Is there something wrong with the formatting on ALL of those pages? I didn't notice a distinction in requires on the Woodland Crown page that would make it be detected.

Theres all kinds of bugs.
Check for case sensitivity and stuff like that. It needs to be EXACTLY same.

I copied and pasted the entries verbatim. Doesn't work. Silk Cloth's 'required by' won't change for any reason.

So, a lot of the "Required by" and requires issues are just bad caching. Old caches remembering legacy connections rather than the new ones, I guess. The solution is either finding all of these issues and manually purging both the required item page and the material page itself (just tested with silk napkin and silk cloth pages, as i couldn't find any issues with the syntax anywhere), or asking the site admin to force purge all pages with some fancy admin magic once more stuff is updated, or even now, idk.

For reference, the way to manually purge a page is to get the edit link, and in the address bar just change the action from edit to purge.

http://ringofbrodgar.com/w/index.php?ti ... tion=purge to be more specific.

PS : Also, images should be taken from the site's resource cache, not screenshots. Makes for a cleaner look.

I guess the meats are rendered by slapping the animal icon onto the generic raw meat icon, too lazy to merge 'em but there you go.

Does purging delete the page, or make it re-search for connections? Should all the relevant pages be re-made? Wouldn't that just break the pages that detect Silk Cloth now?

Edit: Tested. Silk Cloth looks pretty populated now. Feels good.

A thing I have noticed for requires linking. If the info box property is listed with ''| property'' it will not work. It must be exactly ''|property'' (no space). After you making this change you will just hit the refresh button at the page's top next to watch button. Doing this refresh in the page for the item and the page that will require that item will fix the linkings. The order of refresh (linked item vs. requires item) matters, one must be done before the other. I don't remembering the order now, so just trying both.

Another thing is that it seems to not work if someone is trying to fix it manually to putting a [[Category]] tags in the page for a category that should be automatically derived from the infobox metadatas. Removing this tag and refresh as before can help.

Also, I do not think that pages will cross linking from legacy to standard namespaces. You are noting that this is not necessary the same as just having the outdated tags. Check that at the top it says ''page'' and not ''legacy.'' The moving command can move paging to other namespace.

I have used these things to fix the main curiosity table, so I can getting these times in amber client. They can be effective. If something here cannot help or will be unclear, feel free to be doing some posting/PM to me.

I was trying a while ago to fix the fep table page to include newer recipes like Butter Scones, which exist on the wiki with the same categories as other items in the table, yet they aren't listed in the table. I just tried the purge action suggested here too and it didn't work. Any ideas?
