Filling a bucket with Water

How does one accomplish this, I have made a bucket, made a cup. I read somewhere that drinking water from the cup refills stamina so I can finally stop standing around and get to work. and that cups can be filled from buckets. I have equippred the bucket, now I got nothing, I assumed I could just walk into a river with it. Do I have to build a full fledged well?
